Enterprise Vault Automatic Folder Creation

Hello

I was wondering if there is a way for Enterprise Vault to create folders in users inbox or maill account automatically after creating provisioning group and retention category? Meaning if i created a retention and provisioning of 18 months, and enabled a user in EV, installed add-in client, i want the folder to be created in his/her email account in Exchange automatically. Please help. Thank you.

  • those folders are created using EVPM. you need to feed it a list of Distinguished Names from AD and define the folder names and settings you want to use in an ini file. there are examples in the ev admin guide.

  • Further, now you know the name of the tool, do a search in these forums for some examples, and / or look in the Utilities PDF file on the EV Media.

  • Just a recommendation, you might want to create AD groups to base Provisioning on.  This will also allow you to create EVPM scripts that target those mailboxes via a LDAP query.

  • As an alternative, that is more dynamic and automatic, if you are using Exchagne 2007 or 2010 you can use Managed Folders in Exchange to create the folder in the mailbox at the time of account creation.  EV can be configured to use the Managed Folder appropriately.  The disadvantage of the EVPM is that it is a "point-in-time" tool and does not have any dynamic features.  The process must be run on a per case basis, or it can be schedule using Windows scheduling.  Managed Folders are dynamic and once set up in Exchange they will automatically work.

  • the challenge in many organizations with Exchange Managed Folders (at least back when i was an exchange admin) is that it required the enterprise cal license which is extremely costly. i dont know if this has changed but i would have loved to use it back then and was told we couldnt for this reason.

  • Thank you for the replies. I will continue my research. So far for Exchange Managed Folders, the cals can be an issue, and after researching, I've read only one policy per mailbox. I don't know if that is true. For EVPM, i will need more practice on my lab for those scripts. If anybody knows the downside of using EVPM and Exchange Manage Folders other than what is mentioned, please let me know. Thank you so much.
