Enterprisevault no longer accesible for users

Situation
Enterprisevault 14.1.0.144 on Windows Server 2019
Local Citrix Xenapp environment with Outlook version 2402
Enterprisevault plugin installed
All users migrated to Exchange Online in October 2024
Enterprisevault is only used as an static archive, no new e-mails are being archived since mid-2020. Future plan is to phase it out fully and switch to Exchange Online archiving.

If users want to open an archived e-mail (with the archive icon showing) they get an error popup saying the archived item cannot be downloaded. Unknown error 0x8004010F

If users open the actual Enterprisevault plugin and search through their save they can see folders and e-mails, but the readpane shows errorcode 0x80004005 and if you double click an e-mail it endlessly askes for the user's AD credentials and whatever you put in it keeps coming back as if the credentials are incorrect.

I have a feeling we were supposed to change something in Enterprisevault now or before we moved to Exchange Online, we didn't touch a thing though and I think that's the issue.

What can we do to resolve this?

Right, nevermind. I'm an idiot. I was wondering a few weeks ago why Enterprisevault would need Office to be installed on the server. And now I know why. Installed Office again and everything works now...

  • Hi Meilink-IT,

I didn´t understand your question initially, sorry for the confusion. To be honest I still don´t know.

If you have a shortcut in your mailbox, it should open the item, I don't see what is the need for outlook, on the server if you are not archiving.

Maybe it doesn't need the full Office suite or full Outlook, just a software component that is included with Office?

But with Office installed again (actually I restored a virtualmachine backup from before I removed Office) it works again.

The webinterface still won't login though, that doesn't matter as we only use the Outlook add-in.

Yeah the webinterface for users accessing their vault still shows a http 403 access denied error. The outlook add-in worked great including the search, but viewing and opening archived e-mails was not possible

  • By the way, the webinterface of Enterprisevault gives me a '403 - forbidden: access denied' page after logging in...

Permissions for archives are all on 'automatically set', as it's the user's own archives

  • HI Meilink-IT,

User can only access via Enterprise Vault Search, you cant use shortcut needer Outlook add-in will work.

Your enterprise vault is just like a giant "pst manager"

O need to give permission to each archive to there ad user.
