EV - Onsite and Cloud

I am looking at EV and want to initially use it onsite, to archive users mailboxes.

I intend on moving all of this into the cloud, but want to "dip my toe" so to speak with the environment.

Can I mix onsite and cloud storage?

For example, could I buy a single license of EV.Cloud and archive one of my mailboxes to the cloud as a test?

    EV.Cloud and EV are two completely different products.
    EV.Cloud was Live Office until Symantec bought them, but rebranded it to EV.Cloud

    Really what you're talking about is Cloud Storage, so that can be hosted in places like Amazon S3, AT&T Synaptix etc.

    So yes, you should be able to archive everything, keep it on site and then migrate them to the cloud the older they get. It would work similar to how you can migrate to tape or secondary storage, but in this case, it would be cloud storage

    Your best bet really is to talk to sales and ask for a possible Demo and moving forward with a small pilot, i'm not sure whether you will have to talk to Amazon or your chosen provider regarding a small test run using cloud space or not though

    Thanks for the info guys.

    I was attracted to the EV.Cloud offering because the storage was included in the price, so I don't really want to use 3rd party storage

    The idea was to get the users used to EV onsite and then move all of our EV data to EV.Cloud once we are happy with the system.

    Do EV and EV.Cloud have the same user experience?

    although the names are similar, they are actually two different products with different user experiences. for mailbox archiving, EV (on premise) is typically deployed with shortcuts or virtual vault. the new EV 11 version has IMAP connectivity to the archive as well as a very much enhanced search interface. admins and users can configure at a very granular level which items get archived even down to specific folders and message types per mailbox.

    EV.cloud uses the journal stream for mailbox archiving so there's no shortcuts and no configuration as to what gets archived. users access their archive through a folder in outlook which connects them via https to the archive interface where they get a view into all their messages, searching, filtering, etc. EV.cloud has additional features for email continuity in case of DR or an Exchange outage and some other benefits like storage which you said.
