EV 9.0.1. Journaling Crashing

Hello

We recently upgraded to EV901 for Exchange and are running Exchange 2003 and a small Exchange 2010 environment.  Since we upgraded to EV901, our EV Exchange Journaling task has been very unreliable.  It will randomly crash, causing journaled mail to sit in our journal mailboxes..  I've spoken with Symantec support in the past regarding this and they had me apply Microsoft KB 2475891...The EV JOurnaling server is running Outlook 2007 sp2 + KB968858...even with the KB2475891 installed, the journaling task is still unreliable.

A Symantec engineer pointed me to

I haven't applied the hotfix yet because i'd like to get feedback if this is the correct next step...

In this symantec article it states to add:

Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Exchange Provider\

Name: DS Server
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value: Fully Qualified Domain Name of the Exchange Server 2010 CAS.
       
Within the 'Exchange Provider' key, can i add multiple 'DS Server' entries..1 pointing to our CAS server, another pointing a Global Catalog,...reason i'm asking is because we're still running Exchange 2003.   Since we're not completely on Exchange 2010, can i point the DS Server key to a Global Catalog server?

    you can point DS SERVER to a Global Catalog yup
    And these are issues i've all had to deal with personally over the last few months, would suggest getting those fixes on there ASAP

    oh and DS SERVER can point to one and only one Global Catalog or Client Access Server.
    If you're worried about a single point of failure, create a Round Robin DNS for your GC's

    So you would create an Alias such as

    GCAlias.myDomain.com -> GCServer1.myDomain.com
    GCAlias.myDomain.com -> GCServer2.myDomain.com
    GCAlias.myDomain.com -> GCServer3.myDomain.com

    That will help spread the load and not create a single dependancy on a GC Server

    Nope, we had chronic chronic issue that actually lead to that hotfix, and it did fixed them, which i was very happy about :)

    one final question - if i point the 'DS Server' registry entry to a Global Catalog server instead of our CAS server, will it cause issues??  Or, do i have to point 'DS Server' to a CAS server if we're journaling Exchange 2010 mailboxes?

    I would suggest pointing it at the GC servers, as we're in a similar situation to you, multiple exchange server types with multiple domains, just make sure you have the hotfix, that DS Server is set and that you have the proper Outlook 2007 Performance hotfix installed

    excellent!  just so i'm clear, which Outlook 2007 Performance hotfix are you referring to?
