EV 9.0.3 on 2008 standard to EV 10.0.4 on 2012 R2 migration process

We are currently using enterprise vault 9.0.3.  The server is windows 2008 standard 64bit.  We only perform Exchange archiving.  All of our vault partitions reside on network storage.  We are getting ready to start the upgrade to 10.0.4.  I would like to run this on windows 2012 R2.  I've seen a number of posts that hint that it should be possible to do a direct migration with the help of the server settings migration wizard.  I wanted to verify my thought process and plan here in case I had some holes in it.  I realized these are general steps and not specific instructions but it should be a good overall idea.

1) Deploy new 2012 R2 server

2) Install pre-reqs for EV 10.0.4 and verify with Deployment scanner.

3) Back up everything just in case

4) Follow the preparation steps in the 9.0.3 environment to prepare it for migration and upgrade

5) Copy over the Index directories to the new server

6) Change dns alias to point to new server

7) Run the server settings migration wizard to build the settings package from the 9.0.3 environment

8) Run the server settings migration wizard to import the settings into the 10.0.4 environment

9) Start the 10.0.4 services on the new 2012 R2 server in the correct upgrade order to upgrade the databases and indexing

10) Decommission 9.0.3 server (shut it down!)

Does anything stand out as a problem?

  • I think you have covered it very well! It would seem you have read through the EV SSMW doc's, just keep that handy as you do the upgrade so you don't miss anything.  :)  I don't see anything that would prevent you from having a successful upgrade.
