EV client 9.01.1073 for Outlook 2010

Dear All,

We have Enterprise Vault 8.0 with Service Pack 3 at the backend installed. Recently I received a new EV client for Outlook from my EV server administrator to test it with Outlook 2010. The Client build is 9.01.1073. I believe this is the Dcom client.

Howerver do I attempt to install the client to a fresh installed Windows 7 with Office 2010 machine. I do get this message.

"Outlook 2010 or later is installed on this computer. You must install the Enterprise Vault HTTP-Only Outlook Add-in"

Could you please tell me why I can't install this client build? I thought the Dcom client should work.

Thank you

Edy

  • oh and for the client to be supported you should be on EV8 SP4 as thats the earliest server version it will support

    From that FAQ:
    Q.  What versions of Enterprise Vault server are supported by the Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 client?
    A.  The Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 client will be supported against Enterprise Vault 8.0.4 (and later) and 9.0 (and later) server versions*.

    Q.  Will Outlook 2010 support be back-ported to an Enterprise Vault 8.0 service pack?
    A.  No. Outlook 2010 support will be introduced in EV 9.0.1 with no plans for a back port. Any customers wishing to utilize an Enterprise Vault client with Outlook 2010 must use the 9.0.1 or later client.

  • Okay, thank you for your quick answer.

But for what reason I've got this client? When it doesn't work with Outlook 2010 at all. It doesn't even install, which I guess has nothing to do with the backend server.

    Thanks

    Edy

  • Well EV has historically always had two clients (or Three clients if you count the self installers from way back when), but its always had the Lite Client (HTTP) and the Full client (DCOM).

For the Outlook 2010 support, due to the way that Microsoft changed how Add-Ins are allowed to run by going to the Outlook Object Model (OOM) the fastest and quickest way to get the Client developed in a timely manner was to push out the Lite Client which is HTTP Only.

The future plans I believe are that EV in the future will only ship with the HTTP only client that will support full functionality (i.e the ability to change archive settings on the enterprise vault tabs, choose where items are restored to etc etc), however there is no ETA on this as of yet.

So for Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 you can use both the full client or lite client dependant on your choice, but for Outlook 2010, you *must* install the lite client, it is the only one that is supported.

And even then when you do get the client installed, the backend EV servers will have to be upgraded to Enterprise Vault 8 Service Pack 4 in order to work correctly and be in a supported configuration

  • JW2 is right, if the MSI you're running to do the client installation doesn't contain "HTTP".. it's not going to work on Outlook 2010.

  • Guys,

Can anyone explain the main differences between the HTTP and DCOM client from a functionality persepcetive apart from support for OLK2010 in the HTTP version?

    Thanks,
