EV co-existent while exchange upgrade

Dear ALL,

Please assist on below question:

Currently we are going through exhange migration to a new domain due to merging into a new company.

We are planning to upgrade from 2007 into exhange 2010, we tested the exchange move mailbox. and it is working fine.

But the problem is i am unable to open old ev mail. To do so, i need to add old domain EV service account to the new exchange 2010 server.

please advise.

  • i solved the issue by below steps:-

    1. Create a link mailbox to the source exchange Vsa account.

    2. Create a New EV mailbox to new exchange.

    3. Assign exhange permission to the VSA and New mailbox, running setEVpermission.ps1

    4. Modify exhange throlling using setEVthorlling.ps1

    5. Migrate the VSA account with old SID history.

    6. Test run new archiving task.

  • the platform are:

    server: window server 2008 R2

    EV: EV 9.0.3

    exchange: old domain ex 2007

                     new domain ex 2010

  • - You need (preferably two way trusts) between the two domains.

    - Run the SetExchangePermissions.ps1 on the exchange 2010 server

    - Go through the steps of prep prep setup exchange 2010 for EV

    - You need add the new domain to your EV server as target

    - You need to configure the exchange 2010 servers as a target on your EV server

Most of the above are in the Install Config Guide.

    - You need to add the SynchInMigrationMode reg key on your EV server

  • Hi LCT, thanks for the advise.

I had done 2 way external trust between the domain.

I am not able to assign administrator right for the VSA on the new server.

As i can only browse the object in the same domain, where VSA account still host in old domain.

Kindly advise how to archive the objective having same VSA account in two domain.

    thousand thanks in advance.

  • First you need to mail enable your VSA, then move the VSA mailbox (just the mailbox) to exchange 2010 on your new domain, this is a pre-req for exchange 2010 with EV. Create a system mailbox on the exchange 2010. Grant VSA local admin to the exchange 2010 server. Run the SetExchangePermissions.ps1 and the throttling.ps1 (there are two scripts that you need to run against the VSA account) for VSA on exchange 2010. If you are not able to assign admin rights to the exchange 2010 server then there is a trust issue as you should be able to, you may need to get the AD guys to look at this first. Are the two domain part of the same forest? You should be able to browse and select the VSA on the exchange server etc.

Once the above are done, on the EV server which is still on the old domain you need to the new domain under Target - Exchange, I suspect you are not able to this either? But you should be able to if the the trust are correct configured. Then add the exchange 2010 server as a target, during this it will ask for the system mailbox etc. Once this is done you need to add the SynchInMigrationMode reg key on your EV server

Then start migrating test users first and test EV functions.

  • Hi Wilson,

I would strongly recommend that you approach a Partner or a Professional Services company to take this project further as it is not as simple as a few lines above, also it needs a lot planning and testing etc.
