EV Migrator and file fetching
Hi all,
It appears that the EV Migrator is working well with the BE 2014.
I have successfully recovered 200Mb file which has been turned in to a placeholder and migrated to tape for long term archiving. This has only taken 9 min to do. Not a bad effort.
My user experience is this.
When I clicked on the place holder to fetch the file it timed out without letting me know that it went to fetch the file from a tape. Problem: user gets confused and not sure what’s happening!
Now, how do I let my users know that the file they asking for are being fetched from a tape and it might take a bit longer to get it back?
Just trying to make the user experience more pleasurable, and less confusing.
Thanks in advance
- It his is pretty much why I am against migration to tapes, in my time I have seen it where the tapes had short retentions and had items deleted, or shipped off site and the recall failed because it was waiting for a tape that was inaccessible Then if you need to restore a whole bunch at once or an index rebuild where it recalls everything it can be disastrous But since this is already implemented, I'll just say that you should be honest with the users and tell them that items like this that are old/rarely used etc are moved to backup tapes and that's what the hold up is when restoring them Otherwise if they believe that the product is slow hen you will get complaints and you end up having to justify why you have EV even though it's just the nature of doing anything with backups and tape etc
