EV Upgrade and move of Indexes
Hi,
We recently upgraded from 8.0.4 to 10.0.4 R1 CHF3 (via 9.0.5) and everything is working fine.
We now want to follow up with three tasks to improve the performance.
- Upgrade the indexes to x64
- Move our four EV servers into an Index Server Group.
- Move all indexes to a single 500GB drive per EV server.
At the moment we have four EV servers taking care of Exchange/Public Folders and FSA with indexes spread across 2 SAN drives on each server.
We had a consultant which advised us on the process but it was a very high level view of it and we’d like to make sure we do this right the first time around.
With that in mind are the following steps in the right order and am I missing anything ?
- On the new drives create common index location “J:\vaultindex”
- Under the index service of each EV server add the new location.
- Close the original x32 locations.
- Create an index server group “ESBIndex”
- Add all EV servers to the new group.
- On the properties of each vault store, Indexers Tab, set the indexer to the new group.
- Start conversion of x32 indexes to x64 indexes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Kevin
Can I ask why you want to create the Index Server Group? You could use this TN to see if you would really benefit:
Do I need to create Index Server groups?
Article:HOWTO97385 | Created: 2014-05-07 | Updated: 2014-05-07 | Article URL http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO97385 Since you have upgraded to EV 10 the 32 bit index locations are essentially closed as nothing new will be written to them. So other then creating the server groups your steps look good.
