Exchange 2003 and 2010 mixed environment
There are 2 Exchange 2003 Servers and 4 exch 2010 servers. I have refered installing and configuring documents as well as setting up exch server guide to add these servers to EV for archiving. But unfortunately having difficulty in keeping both the tasks running. I found that for Exchange 2010 need DS Server registry dword on Ev server and pointing to Exch2010 CAS Server for address lookups.
When I add this key nothing works, and removing helps to start task of exch2k3.....any idea how should this thing needs to setup?
What i would suggest is
1. Log in to the EV Server as the EVAdmin
2. Open up a regedit
3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Exchange Provider
4. If there is a DS Server registry String, get rid of it
5. Create a new DWORD called "Closest GC" (with a space, not one word)
6. Give it a value of 1
7. Open up a SQL Management Studio
8. Go to the EnterpriseVaultDirectory database
9. Edit the "ExchangeServerEntry" table
10. In the column for ExchangeGCOverride for the 2010 servers, put in GC://CASServer.yourDomain.com/
11. Commit the changes in SQL Server
12. Restart the Enterprise Vault Admin ServiceWhen specifying the GC Server for the exchange gc override, you want to specify the Client Access Server for Exchange 2010 and not an actual global catalog. Some people will use a CAS Array address or load balancer address, but if that load balancer changes contexts you might end up with quite a few 3310s as you keep getting booted.
Also note that if you still get 3310's and such, it may be worth looking on the CAS Servers themselves and looking for any mention of the EVAdmin account being killed off by the throttling policy
