Exchange Server 2013 email archive and EV 11 email archive comparison

Hi People,

I’m currently investigating what EV v11 can offer for the Exchange Server 2013 email archiving solution.

Since the Exchange Server 2013 SP1 already got the Email Archiving feature built-in with no additional cost, I wonder if anyone here can send me the document or Technote which shows the comparison between the EV v11 archiving feature and the built-in Exchange server archiving feature ?

Or any comparison document from real life implementation would also be greatly appreciated.

    It will come down to your companies needs, particularly in regards to e-discovery and if the MSFT built-in tools are "good enough".

    So far I can only see the following thread but only comapres with Exchange Server 2010 not 2013 and EV v10 not v11:

    So I wonder if there is any other reason keeping EV v11 as oppose to use the Exchange Server 2013 archiving feature.

    I've never use the Exchange native / builtin archiving feature, so I do not know what's the caveats or the pitfall.

    Hence, I ask this question.

    There are many reasons why EV Archiving still makes sense - certainly we still believe we offer a better story for storage optimization compared to Exchange native archiving. This is not something to under-estimate, think about pulling all your archived data back into Exchange or ingesting all the PSTs, think how much data this puts into Exchange. This all needs to be backed up or replicated or both, so leaving EV to manage the storage & expiry means you're managing your data rather than just putting it somewhere.

    The question of where to archive is not really the only thing you need to answer, you also need to think about the governance of your data over time and making sure you are able to manage it and search it effectively when needed. Information Governance is becoming more important to all organisations so having a platform in place that allows you to take control of not just email but other data is something to consider. And indeed EV is not just a platform for email, it can also archive files,sharepoint,public folders and a range of other content using our rich ecosystem of partner solutions. If eDiscovery is a concern then our customers often decide to use Journaling to capture all emails, again EV offers more flexibility on storage management (single instance storage) with the option of close integration with our leading eDiscovery platform Clearwell or EV Discovery Accelerator.  There are other considerations such as user access to their data and we believe we have better options for accessing the archive when offline,working remotely or via mobile platforms. Hopefully this gives you a few ideas but it's probably worth a longer conversation - I'll contact you offline for further follow up.

    Hi Glen, 

    Can you make up some data which can show say (1 to 15) features which EV/EV.cloud offers and how many of this 1 to 15 Microsoft native archival does'nt offer.
