File Server archiv / two archives with same name. One of them is empty / EV 8.0.2

Hi!

We are running Enterprise Vault 8.0.2.1693

We only use file archiving for our file server.

At the moment i have 3 active Archive Points

- e$\DATEN\DESIGN
- e$\DATEN\CAD\daten
- f$\DATEN

i have additional 6 archive points where archiving is disabled

- e$\DATEN\CAD
- e$\DATEN\CAD\allgemein
- e$\DATEN\CAD\datensicherung
- e$\DATEN\CAD\ISDN
- e$\DATEN\CAD\Zeichnungen
- e$\DATEN\leistungsbericht

The strange thing is that i have 4 file archives under Archives - File System (see file-archives.jpg)

1. daten
2. DATEN (empty)
3. DATEN
4. DESIGN

The first DATEN is empty if i try to search the archive.
In the advanced option it also shows that there are no archived items (see options-advanced.jpg)

The first DATEN also allready showed up when archiving was disabled for this archive point.

I had this problem also in my first tests but when i made the tests i just the deleted the empty archive and everything was fine.

Now i have data in archive and just want to be sure that i can delete the empty archive without loosing data.

approciate any help

christian

  • Christian,

You should be able to safely delete the empty archive however to be sure it is not in use:

    1. On the advanced tab of the DATAEN (empty) archive note the  archiveid guid.

    2. use \program files\enterprise vault\archivepoints.exe to "read" each of your active archivepoints.  eg:

archivepoints.exe read \\server\share\subfolder (use archivepoints find \\server\share to find the archivepoints)

    3. verify that none of archivepoints\archiveveid field matches the archiveid guid from the empty archive.

Assuming no matches and to be ultrasafe; set the manual permissions on the archive to deny for all users (manual overrides automatic).  This will disable access to the archive without actually deleting it.

When you are positive it is not in use (ie no user complaints, no items in archive) delete archive.
