Folder Missing from Exchange but Visible through Archive Explorer (EV)

Folder is visible through Archive Explorer (EV) but not visible through outlook/webmail (exchange). Usually its the other way around. Anyone else have this issue?

  • Typically the user has just deleted the folder and shortcuts out of Exchange.  That would explain what you are seeing.

Have you checked the Recover Deleted Items via Outlook to see if there is anything in there?

  • The folder dissapeared a long time ago, we have only know about this issue a few days ago so its not possible to use the Recover Deleted Items as it only holds deleted items for 10 days as per the policy.

We might have to try a folder restore from Backup Exec.

  • Is it really an issue though? because I would expect that to be fairly common?

  • Are they saying they're missing items that weren't archived? Cos you could be restoring from backups for a long time looking for a folder they chose to delete
  • This is an exchange folder deletion issue. if the folder is deleted in outlook with shortcuts in it the behaviour is such that it is a soft delete (correct me if i'm wrong) and items remain in EV. Ofcourse the shortcuts and the folder is gone to deleted items. Pretty normal as per design. Another way you can have a whole bunch of extra folders appeae in AE is to do a PST import without creating shortcuts in your mbx
