Index Rebuild doesnt progress for any particular reason

Hi All

EV 9.0 sp2

I have logged a call with Support  for this but I thought getting the forums input can only help

I have a customer that EV is reporting that there more or less 3.6 million items that are awaiting to be Indexed on a File Archive EV server

Using SQL we identified that there are 3 File Archives that are in this inconsistent state

We tried Index Updates and Rebuilds on the smallest Archive and it always stops on the same number of  items. No errors are logged in the EV Event Viewer, it just doesn't progress past a certain number  We also

  • Confirmed AV isn't running
  • Ran Dtrace
  • Looked at Updates.log

None of these show any reason why its not progressing, so any idea why EV would just not be able to Index a particular Archive and not give any error?

  • just a few quick checks:

    1. Is the index service in report mode?

    2. Is the index service running/with vault servuce account?

    3. Is the index service and locations local to this EV server?

    4. Check the path of the index locations to see if the EV service account can access this location?

    5. Indexing ever worked for this server?

    6. What changed since it has stopped working?

You probably checked this but worth double check again.

  • Hi LCT

Thanks for the input, in response

I1,s the index service in report mode? No I am able to do a rebuild

    2. Is the index service running/with vault servuce account? Yes

    3. Is the index service and locations local to this EV server? Yes, on a SAN

    4. Check the path of the index locations to see if the EV service account can access this location? Yes we can browse

    5. Indexing ever worked for this server? Yes, only these File Archives out of dozens are inconsistent

    6. What changed since it has stopped working?

    Customer said nothing?

You probably checked this but worth double check again

I agree sometimes we miss obvious things but I did check what you mentioned

  • Hi Tony

No it stays on Rebuilding, and I can see from the updates.log  that it stops on the exact number everytime. What is really puzzling is that no errors get logged

  • you may probably find storagecrawler looping over the same items over and over and over
try enabled AV Trace logging and seeing if it gives you any hints
