IPM.Note.EnterpriseVault.ShortCut.RestoreMe

All,

I am in the process of manually (Do to many other issues) restoring a bunch of archived emails from outlook. When I highlighted a bunch of shortcuts and hit the restore button, the shortcuts have changed into "IPM.Note.EnterpriseVault.ShortCut.RestoreMe" class and EV has not restored it to IPM.Note. I have performed this on multiple users and they were all successful, except this user.

I'm assuming some kind of process abruptly ended, etc which left these shortcuts as "RestoreMe". Can someone shed some light on what I need to do to complete the restore of the shortcuts to MSGs.

Thanks
  • There is a freeware utility called DocMessageClass.

If Cancel Operation does not work you can try it.

it is easy to use and it can convert the RestoreMe back to an EV Shortcut message class, which is what I would recommend you do as they are still shortcuts, correct?

Google for DocMessageClass and you should find it.

I recommend you use a test mailbox to get the hang of it.

    Regards,
    Tony

  • Cancel operation button and try again.
if it doesn't work, check the event logs and see if there are any issues that its reporting
also make sure that you can open the items also.

you can also try doing the restore through OWA or AE and see if that works, ruling out a client issue perhaps
  • What version/service pack of EV are you using?  We have had some issues in the past with :-

    a) highlighting hundred's of items results in processing only "some" of them (for archiving and restoring)
    b) time stamps between the client and server get out of synch (relevant only to the light client functionality really).

Are you using the lite client?  Do you have a client trace, and a server side dtrace?
  • Rob,
forgive me if i'm wrong but RestoreMe is only generated by the lite client, right?
  • Guys -

Its EV 8 SP2 with a full client installation. I do not currently have any trace as of now.

The other option is to go through the motion of "archiving" the mail and it should change the "Restoreme" to "SHortcut" again. Thereafter, I can try to restore again?

    Any thoughts on that?
  • Guys - Actually I just tried to archive couple of emails which had a message class of "IPM.Note.EnterpriseVault.Shortcut.RestoreMe" and EV through an error stating "Unable to archive the selected items because they are already store in the vault". So archiving again is not an option.
  • well if they have a RestoreMe, that means they're still Archived items, its just there so when the ArchiveRetrieval task comes along, it can take that item, effectively delete it and replace it with the original unarchived message.

you would need to do a Cancel Operation against it. and then try to restore again.
I would also check the policy for that user, check the Outlook Add In Behavior in the Desktop Policy under Advanced and make sure that its set to normal and not http only
and then try restoring again after that.
