Move Archive by Script

Hi together,

i want to move a big amount of archives from an old EV System (Windows Server 2003 & EV 9.0.2) to a new one (Windows Server 2008 R2 and EV 10.0.4). Between the surroundings is a WAN VPN connection. We plan to move the users in different steps. Because it´s very laborious to start this every day with the GUI i´m searching for a possibility to start the Archive Moves by script. To disable the archives before moving them in SQL via Script is no problem.

Thank you

Jakob

  • You can't do move archive with EV, via a script, unfortunately.

  • Hi Jakob,

As Rob said You cannot run Move Archive via scripts.

But considering that you want to Move the huge amount of archive over a WAN VPN ?? I guess you now that Move Archive is not fast and not an ideal tool to Move all the users from One EV Server to another EV Server.

This tool is slow and you have to be patience while running with this tool as it is not desinged to Move a huge amount of users simultaneously. So if you can Plan accordingly and happy with the days and time Move Archive gonna take..then go for it.

Otherwise you can go for Thidparty Migration tool. To start with you can refer the following white paper from symantec.

  • Hi A_J

thank you for the hint. I know that the integrated move archive solution is not very fast. But because i don´t have downtimes etc. with the solution and i can access both archives from the new surrounding i don´t habve trouble with the duration of the moves.
