move archive to different ev server?

The move archive feature in EV8 and EV9 can move the archives for you from one server to another

Experience shows that moving archives is slow.

It also fails if there is even the littlest corruption in the archive.

I've been advised that Move Archive is not designed to move lots of archives. When moving many archives, you should either use 'export to pst/import to archive', or start checking 3rd party tools (Archive Shuttle from Glasshouse, or TransVault is what we look at).

However... If your archives are relatively small, you should be able to move a lot. You can use the usage summary to check archives and amount of items. I would definitely run a test on several archives before using move archive on the bulk.

The advantage of Move Archive is that it is 'native' EV, so lots of checking and updating shortcuts etc is being done. Disadvantage in my opinion is speed.

As example, I moved an archive having 60.000 items that took about 7 hours. I also moved an archive having 2900 items (mine ;-)) which only took 90 minutes. I had 3 failures (out of the 12 I tried), and then reverted to exporting/importing.

Move Archive is not a migration tool. People should know that by now......

i have also think that what will be the archived items when i carry them.

for example; i have a ev server hostame:   test.company.net   and new server will be new.company.net, can i carry the archives to the new server in same domain and my question is;old item adress in sql will be test.company.net.................    when i carry the archives it will work on new host name and server name?sql databasas will be updated?do you know the background process?

i need to carry 2old ev servers to new powerfull machine. (ev1.abc.com and ev2.abc.com)

what is your best and easy way to this migration?

my idea:restore os image of ev1.abc.com to new evserver with name ev1.abc.com  and eleminate the old one then "move  archive" ev2.abc.com to ev1.abc.com and eleminate the 2.old server .finally i have 1 powerfull evserver.(total user:500)

The easiest - best way to do this, is simply install the new OS on the new hardware with the same names as the old Enterprise Vault Servers.

Unplug the old Enterprise Vault Servers and run the Enterprise Vault Configuration wizard, it will reinstall all the necessary services and bobs your uncle. sorted....
