Partition Rollover EV9

Hello All

I will be creating a new partition rollover next week and want to clarify the steps. We have been using BE 12.5 to backup EV for the last few months and now upgrading to BE 2010 with EV agents.

The backups are scheduled each night and backup to disk.

when the backup capacity reaches 790GB, i create a new Journal and Mailbox Partition in 'Ready', I then close the old partitions and change the status to 'Open' on the new partitions. Then over night backup from disk to tape and start the backup to disk process all over again.

Is this the correct way? Do i need to manually 'Open' then new partitions or do these change automatically?

Please advise?

Thanks

  • You keep the new partitions to ready, the open ones remain open, then when its configured to roll over, it will then close those partitions and then set the "Ready" ones to be opened, theres not much else you need to do there

  • At what point does it change from ready to open? Where is it configured to rollover? Do I need to do configure this when I create the new partition?
  • Okay I managed to figure out how the the 'Ready' partition automatically changes over to 'Open', this depends on the criteria set on the last 'Open' partition.

I am doing this manually (closing then opening the ready partition) and then backing up the Closed partition. Looking back at some of the previous closed partitions I can see Unsecured items, does this mean some of the items in these partitions have not successfully backed up? (attached Screenshot)

  • Support confirmed partitions showing this information have not been backed up and need backing up.

I have identified at least 4 affected partitions, I will backup these over the week to see if these clear.

  • are you using the EV agent for BE? if not, it will make your life much easier.

  • using BE 12.5 with EV agent. Why will it be better with out the agent? Wouldnt this affect backup performance?

We have purchased BE 2010 with 2010 Agents and going to use this to backup EV.
