replacing file server...installing Placeholder service.

Hello. Thanks for the time.  I just wanted to get some clarification.  We are replacing our file server and right now it carries the EV file placeholder service.  How do I install that service onto the new server? Install FSA Agent?  I saw some old documentation that says to just right-click on the server in Targets and choose Install Placeholder service. (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH50930).  However this is not an option in EV 10.0.1 ...so I am just figuring out if the name has just changed but the services remain the same.  Thanks.

  • typically you just right click the File Server name in the VAC
(Directory -> Site -> Targets -> File Server -> right click your file server)

You may need to select it first and then right click it, you should then see "Install FSA Agent"

You could just copy the Setup.exe and MSI file and run it manually, it doesn't have to be deployed from the VAC.

  • which MSI file?  I tried to run the setup.exe and I didnt see an option for FSA. Ill go with the VAC since I can see it. Also how would I go about confirming files are being archived and are accessible? just open an archived file up?  thanks again.

  • From your file server, open \\nameofyoureverserver\c$ (or whichever drive you installed to).  Navigate to:

    \Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault\evpush\Agent

That's where the MSI's live, plus the pre-reqs.

And the right click stuff .. is available in 10.0.1

  • thank you both.  I have version 10.0.1.  I will try out the right-install agent.
