Search Archives

Hi,

The situation is we have Vault Cache (no shortcuts) and are piloting some virtual desktops without local storage. The lack of results from the EV archive in Outlook (and Windows) search is an issue, and the suggested route of going to the Outlook EV Add-In, Search Vaults is not a seamless operation.

I don't believe the above can be done natively so, is anyone aware of a 3rd party product to allow Windows Indexing to index the EV archive content without a Vault Cache locally or Shortcuts in the mailbox?

    No unfortunately not.
    Things like Outlook Instant Search, Windows Desktop Search, Google Desktop etc is that they all index from contents stored on the end users machine. So without the vault cache being present, it has no items to index. So really at that point, you're looking at an Online search only, and because of that, it has to go through the  regular web apps that EV uses (search.asp, searcho2k.asp, archiveexplorerui.asp etc)


    So in order for there to be a desktop search or plugin for outlook that searches, it would have to be something custom written for you to be able to search EV in a different format etc.

    Just as a matter of interest, what is not "Seamless" about the current search capabilities?

    It involves 2 searches, one of the mailbox (windows index) and a second via the web-pages.

    A very long shot, are you aware of any companies that could create some middleware to achieve something like this? (To read archive details and add the data to the windows index)

    have you tried the new IMAP feature of EV11? i wonder if it might be able to bridge some of the gaps for you.
