Shortcut Deletion Only...possible...?

Anyone know how to configure EV so when a user uses the delete button from Outlook the EV shortcut is the only thing which is deleted, the archived item remains?

I have set shortcut only deletion, but this does not seem to have the desired effect.

I find the user is prompted as below, I would prefer the shortcut only is removed and not the associated archive item. The idea being most of my users will want to clean up their mailboxes, but still keep the items in the archive. If they want to delete from the archive they will use archive explorer.

Any ideas appreciated.

Jeremy.

  • Hi Jeremy,

Might shortcut expiry be an option?

Where I am now, we've set this to 'remove shortcuts after 5 months' (when archiving after 30 days, users know that items older than 6 months are in their archive), and previous job, we had remove shortcuts after 1 year (so all mail older than 1 year would be in the archive).

Might that be an option for you?

  • Hi Jeremy

Pictures failed to upload I think.

I assume you set the policy to allow shortcut deletion only?

Did you synchronize the mailboxes after changing the policy?

  • Hi Guys,

Thanks for replying so quickly. I initially had the delete from archive button on the EV Toolbar. I have since removed this, so if a user deletes a shortcut from their Outlook mailbox it is a standard Outlook delete and is not connected to the EV archived item.

A lot, or most of my users will want to clean up their shortcuts at some point, but will not want the archived items to be removed as well. The users will then have to open Archive Explorer or if available to them VV to delete the actual archived emails.

    Thanks,

  • Hey Gertjan,

Thanks, we have the shortcut expiry setup for 12 months. The major concern was making sure users only delete items from their archive when they are in Archive Explorer. Everything else should only delete the shortcut.

We appear to have achieved this by not showing the delete from archive button on the Outlook toolbar.

Thanks for your responses, I am marking you as resolver. :)
