Sizing for Index storage
Sizing for Enterprise Vault is confusing as it almost impossible to get accurate sizing for our environment. I’m confused on how much we should have for the Indexing. I know, we can always add more SAN LUNs to the server later in the future.
As for initial setup, do you think 250 GB for Index (E:\) should be enough for a few years or should have more? We will have 2 EV servers (Journal Archive and Mailbox Archive) with 4 Exchange 2010 servers (5,000+ mailboxes)
I'm planning to have the following configuration per EV Server:
- C:\ drive (OS) : 60 GB
- D:\ drive (Application): 60 GB
- \MSMQ
- \Program File(x86)\Enterprise Vault
- \EVStorageCache
- E:\ drive (Index) : 250 GB
- F:\ drive (Archive): 2 TB (for Journal Archive EV Server) and 2TB (for Mailbox Archive EV Server)
Indexing roughly is based on the size of the archived items.
If you have 1 TB of archived items, your index will be about 150GB (15%) (Symantec states the Full indexing, which gives you the best search features, is 13%, but better safe than sorry!)
In that perspective, seeing you estimate 2TB for legal and 2TB for mail, you are already looking at 600GB for indexes.
You can start of with 250, but I advise to start of with 500GB. This will allow you to run longer without needing to extend the drive (or add a disk)
