SQL Database Migration

We will be migrating SQL databases to a new server as per:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100016654.html

The migration will be done in batches of 3-4 databases per day.

My question is do we need to stop the services or just putting the vaults and indexes in backup mode enough?

If we are stopping services, do we need to stop the services on all the EV servers or just for the servers which have the storage service of the migrating databases?

  • Yes, you will need to stop the services when updating the databases with the new MS SQL server name.

However, there is no need to restart the Directory/Admin service when updating the Vault Store / Vault Store Group databases. Instead, you need to stop all the services when updating the Directory database.

Just make sure you keep EV in backup mode while copying the databases.

      Thanks Virgil.

We are not migrating the directory database.

Just so I am clear, we only need to stop services on the server hosting that vault stores and not on all the servers.

Also backup mode should also be only on the databases being migrated and not on all the vault stores.

      Is this correct?

Hi mate, yes, you are absolutely correct.

One caveat though. If you are using OSIS across al vault stores, you need to stop the Storage service on all EV servers.
