Symantec EV 9.0.2 SQL server migration and EV server upgradation.

Hello Folks!!

I am planning for a full scale migration/upgradation of my EV infra which inculdes the SQL server as well and i would like to have yours vauable inputs in order to get this project move smoothly.
===================================
Current Infra.

SQL Server : SQL 2005 ent on windows 2003
EV server: EV 9.0.2 on Windows 2008 R2 Enteprise edition 64bit (hardware Low performance HP DL 380 G6)
Storage : Index are on LUN drive and EV data is on EMC centera Storage.

=====================
Proposed Infra:

SQL Server : SQL 2008 R2 on windows 2008 R2
EV Server: EV 10.0.2 on Windows 2008 new hardware (High Performance HP DL 380 G8) 24 Gb RAM
Storage : Index are on LUN drive and EV data is on EMC centera Storage

====================================

Now i would like to plan in a such a way that there is no major impact to end users.

I have plan to peform 4 phase migration plan as below

Phase1 : Setup new SQL server on new hardware with SQL 2008 R2 and replicate the old SQL db to new sql server, stop all EV services on EV server modify the registry to point to new SQL server and perform a connectivity test if everything looks good revert the changes and point it back to old sql server

Phase 2: Migrate the SQL DB from OLD SQL Server to New SQL server and reconfgure the EV server to point to new sql server and perform a QA.

Phase 3: Migrae EV server from OLD Hardware to new Hardware with EV 9.0.2 binaries

Phase 4 : Peform a inplace upgrade of EV from 9.0.2 to 10.0+
===========================================================

Please let me know if this sounds like a fool proof plan or i need to make some mofication and consideration before jumping on this issue.

  • EV Server: EV 10.0.2 on Windows 2008 new hardware (High Performance HP DL 380 G8) 24 Gb RAM

    Is it Win 2008 or Win 2008R2?

    EV10 supports Win 2008 R2 and above.
