Unable to archive mails including macros

Hi,

First of all, happy year for all! I begin this year with an issue concerning archiving macro...

One of our customer reported that emails including macros will not be compressed. Even by clicking on the button "Store in Vault" the status is switching shortly to the status with the "clock" but after about 2 seconds, it returns to the initial status and is no longer foreseen for any compressing.

I've try to find information in EV forum but nothing concerning this issue.

Your help will be appreciated.

Kr,

  • Well yes.  I'ved emailed the person in support assigned to you case (I work in Engineering).  We need to get to the bottom of why you are seeing this items not being archived at all.

Whatever version of EV you're in, if you archive a 2 Kb email, you'll end up (probably) with a larger shortcut.. because of the extra metadata that we add to the archived item.

The bit we have to resolve in your case, I think, is why the item goes pending, then flips back to normal.

There are some possibilities.  The first of call is :-

    * If this is archiving from a client, then we need a client trace, and an archive task trace.

    * If this is archiving from the server (doing a run now) then we just need an archive task trace.

You mentioned the message class is IPM.Note for these items, so I don't think the following registry key on the server will have any bearing but we should consider it :

    ManualArchiveMessageClassCheck

    Location

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
     \SOFTWARE
      \KVS
       \Enterprise Vault
        \Agents

    Content

    DWORD.

0 - [Default] Archive all items when a user performs a manual archiving operation.

1 - Archive only those items that belong to the message classes that are listed in the mailbox policy

    Description

Specifies whether, when a user performs a manual archiving operation, Enterprise Vault archives only those items that belong to the message classes that are in the mailbox policy. By default, Enterprise Vault archives all items when manual archiving is performed. Enterprise Vault ignores the message class list that is in the mailbox policy.

This registry value does not affect automatic, background archiving runs.

In addition we should check whether or not these mails are signed, encrypted or both.

  • Hi Rob,

We've finally receive an hotfix from Symantec support. I'll check it in our DEV env before deploying it in PROD (this will be done this friday 18-02 night).

    I keep you informed.

    Kr,

  • Hmm interesting, do you have a reference, or a link or anything?  [I've asked the support engineer already as well]

  • Hi,

Just to confirm that hotfix has been checked in our DEV env and works correctly. We'll apply it in our PROD env this friday (we're waiting approvment from Change Management).

    Many tx for your collaboration.

  • Excellent news.  I'm hope you won't have any problems with this in your production environment, as you've "done the right thing", and tested in a lab environment first.
