Upgrade EV hardware from 32bit to 64bit

Morning All,

For the past week or so I've been preping my new EV 64 bit hardware to be brought online.  I will be updating my hardware for SQL and my EV server and have been following the steps outlined in the following articles and videos.  My new hardware will be brought online with the same name different IP of my current EV and SQL servers.  EV databases have been in backup mode since the start of me beginning to prep the new hardware.  All of my vault partitions and SQL databases have been copied to my new hardware in the same directories and drive paths.  I do have two vault stores that will have a new path on the new hardware.  I will be using the instructions outlined in the "How to change/move Vault Store partition path" below to update SQL of the new location prior to running the EVault configuration wizard.  The plan is to stop all the EV servers on my current server and rename it to a temp name and rename the SQL server to a temp name as well.  Rename the new hardware (SQL and EV) to the current names of my EV servers and run the configuration wizard and hopefully EV will detect the existence of the original installlation.

The only thing that I'm unsure of is step 12a in the "How to move EV to a new Server" document.  I'm assuming I run this against the new SQL server, but what is this command actually doing?  Just was unsure so I thought I would ask.  Does anyone see anything wrong with the steps or am I missing anything?

  • why not use the EV Settings migration wizard?
    would be far simpler

As for step 12a, what is it doing?

So basically what those columns are are MSMQ Paths, however they use the machine name instead of the alias for the server, so if you don't clear those out and you move from machineA.myDomain.com to machineB.myDomain.com what will happen is when EV Starts it will try to use MSMQ on machineA, and when that server gets shut down it will fail

It is ran against the EnterpriseVaultDirectory database on the SQL Server via SQL Management Studio

So when you clear those columns, it will reset them to be machineB etc
However you don't need to worry about that if you use the migration wizard

  • Jesus,

Thanks for the reply.  I did see that, but unfortunately we are running EV8 SP5.  I would love to upgrade but that's another long story.  So running that command in SQL will clear out those columns and when the the new EV server comes online those columns will automatically get repopulated with the new server information?

  • yup, when the admin service starts up, it will see they are blank and automatically populate them
