Upgrading EV from v8.0 SP4 into v10 caveats ?

Hi All,

I'd like to know what are the caveats or the upgrade steps when upgrading version 8.0 SP4 into version 10 ?

My current Outlook 2007 SP2 and Exchange Server 2007 SP1 will stay the same as it is not yet upgraded to 2010.

    Ok, so you first will upgrade to EV 9 on your current hardware and then move to EV 10 on new hardware.

    I would highly recommend that you build yourself a VM lab and go through the process.

    Most importantly, back up everything before you start!

    What OS is the EV Server?  First thing you want to do is read the Upgrade_Instructions.pdf/chm included with each version install media.

    If you can, practice in a VM lab or something so you get the feel for it. 

    If you need to go to new hardware use the Enterprise Vault Server Settings Migration wizard, it is pretty easy to use: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO42445

    Yes Tony,

    I'm on version 8.0 SP4 not version 9, the OS is still Windows Server 2003.

    The drive is on Physical RDM (directly connected to the SAN) so there is no way to test it on the test lab.

    It is always  a great idea that is frequetnly not done to run thought this process in a lab . The only thing i can think to add is to make sure you do not have a backlog in the Journal* tables(JournalArchive, JournalUpdate, JournalDelete...) There were DB changes between these version sthat can drastically elongate your upgrade process if you have a backlog in these tables.
