Windows Server 2012 R2 file server deduplication & EV 10/11 FSA archiving feature ?

Hi All,

I'd like to implement the new EV v10 or even 11 later on to the newly build Windows Server 2012 R2 file server which is currently running with the de-duplication feature running.

Does the EV File System archiving can still works as expected archiving old file based on the last access time stamp when the Windows Server 2012 R2 de-duplication feature turned on as well ?

Do I need to set the De-duplication rule differently than the EV archive rule or can that be the same to archive & dedupe a file that is not accessed in the past X years ?

  • You would probably want to contact Symantec directly, like I said, if it isn't in the Compatibility doc it has been tested.

  • the compatibility guide says Windows Server 2012 R2 is supported now but this is all really new stuff so if i were you, i'd create a small dir structure to target and test this out to see how they work together.

  • Cool, so in this case the Archiving and th de-duplication can work hand-in-hand to conserve the disk space.

what about the drive encryption (Bit Locker) ? Does EV also supports that ?

  • If it isn't in the compatibility guide it means it hasn't been tested.  I found this older thread about it here:

  • Tony,

That was in 2010, so is there any update on the 2012 R2 Bit Lcoker this time ?
