adding Solaris 10 client to 5220 applliance Master

Hi,

i have 5220 appliance configured as a Master, i have one sparce solaris 10 server which i whant to backup it on the network not FT (FT not configured yet ), both servers can ping each others,

i installed the client SW on Solaris  using NFS client from the appliance as bellow:

To install the NetBackup client software on a UNIX client through an NFS share

1 On the UNIX client computer where you want to install the NetBackup client

software, log on as root.

2 Mount the following NFS share:

<appliance_name>:/inst/client

3 Browse the files within the NFS share directory. Files that are similar to the

following appear:

.packages clientconfig quickinstall.exe

PC_Clnt docs unix-client-install

4 Run the unix-client-install script.

This action installs the NetBackup client software.

5 Add the appliance master server name to the bp.conf file on the client as

follows:

■ On the client, navigate to the following location:

cd /usr/openv/netbackup

■ Enter ls to see the contents of the directory.

■ Open the bp.conf file in a text editor.

i add the appliance name!!

now how i can update the appliance bp.conf file with the new Solaris client??

i try to edit it by log in to Maintenance with P@ssw0rd it did not allow me, is this the correct way to configure the new client??

from NB java console, i try to add the new client but it was saying cannot connect to the client ,

Pleas advice,

  • Look at your opening post:

both servers can ping each others,

I am glad that you mention the word experiance in such bold letters.
My assumption was that you know from
experience that we should use hostnames when we do ping tests, not IP addresses.

We also know from experience that hostname lookup happens at OS level and is done via DNS or /etc/hosts, right?

If your server and client are not using DNS, you should add entries for one another in /etc/hosts.
    On the Appliance, use

Network > Hosts Add IPAddress FQHN ShortName
On the client, add /etc/hosts entry for the Appliance.

See Symantec NetBackup 52xx Appliance Command Reference Guide:DOC6344

Let us know how it goes once you have added hosts entries.

  • also when i am trying to configure a storage Device from the netbackup admin Java console ,

while from the appliance i cane see it :

No clients get added to the appliance bp.conf.

Simply create a backup policy for the client.

  • thanks Marianne,

but this what i did exactlly , but in the client list Solaris client showing "cannot connect to the host "!!

  • Check on Solaris client that NBU processes are running:

    ps -ef | egrep 'pbx_exchange|vnetd|bpcd'

    You should see the following:

    /opt/VRTSpbx/bin/pbx_exchange
    /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/vnetd -standalone
    /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcd -standalone

If all processes are running, create bpcd folder under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs

Try to connect again from Appliance.
Check log file in client's bpcd folder for errors.

See this TN for detailed troubleshooting steps: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO72844
  • all the servicess are running from client side,

from Console of the NB appliance after i run the backup policy its shows the bellow log:

as you can see from this error :

the client not able to comunoicat with the appliance , from my experiance in NB any new alien will be part of NB environment the host name of that clien should be added to the master!!!
how i can add this  client to the master?

  • from the appliance i am not able to resolve the host name

    nb-appliance5220.Network> Ping pmserver
    unknown host

but if i ping the ip of that clint then it will :

    nb-appliance5220.Network> Ping 10.80.1.62
