Backup all Hyper-V guest machines on a host

We have NetBackup 7.6.1.1 Appliance based infrastructure.

I would like to add all Hyper-V VMs to NBU policy so that we don’t have to select the guests indovidually. For example, If a guest is added on Hyper-V which is already being backed-up thought NBU, could that guest automatically be part of the backup? Like we are able to do with VMware in NBU.

Question 1:

For Hyper-V hosts to be added to the backup policy, is there a way to add all VMs residing on that Hyper-V server instead of adding the hosted VMs individually on the policy?

The following steps I have taken from Symantec technote for Hyper-V backups;

    11. Using the clients tab we can add the virtual machines for backup.
    12. On the Backup Selections tab, Select ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES. This is the only backup selection which is supported for the backup of Hyper-V virtual machines.

Question 2:

This ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES -> is it for Hyper-V or for the VMs?

  • 1) NetBackup v7.7 includes the feature of VIP (VM Intelligent Policies) for Hyper-V which lets you select Hyper-V VMs using filters just as you can already for VMware.

    2) Yes, VM backups of VMware VMs and Hyper-V VMs use the ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES within the selection list of their policies.
