Compression on an Access Appliance? 3340

I have a full access appliance. Am I able to run a compression job of all the data on the 3340?

I've tried to turn off the worm lock, and then delete a large amount of images - 5000, and its taking days and days process. It doesnt even look like it is deleting anything.

Anyboy have any advice other than investing in a bigger 3340? Shelves for the 3340 are no longer available...

  • There isn’t much you can do.

What version of Access are you running, and what commands are you using to expire a backup image?

  • If you are using this as a MSDP pool, then as  StefanosM says there isn't much you can do, and depending on what you are expiring you may see little overall difference in space consumed (due to the nature of deduplication). Also for MSDP, the data chunks are by default compressed before storage, so there is no option to recompress this and expect to find savings.

One suggestion to check is if you have any orphaned images in the appliance. As a first step compare the consumed space in the appliance with the output of the command "/usr/openv/pdde/pdcr/bin/crstats --convert-size" and see if the value for "Space Allocated For Containers" is similar to the total physical volume size of the storage. If it is markedly different (more than 10%), then I would open a support call and ask for assistance to identify and them delete orphaned images from the appliance.
