Details on NBU appliances
Hi All,
Hopping over from the BE forums :)
I've got a requirement to start looking at the NBU appliances for a client of ours, and wanted to know how good they are, as well as models, Gartner report (if you have please share), usability, learnin curve for engineers etc.
This would be to replace TSM...

The 5230's are reliable. Have not seen any hardware issues.
From a usability point of view, the appliance itself doesnt require much attention. If you're plugin it into NBU environment its seamless. If you're basing the NBU environment on it, then you'll be new to NBU probably and its NBU that would be posing learning curve.

In addition to Riaan's excellent post -
Bear in mind that the NBU appliance is Linux based.
So, any kind of config that cannot be done from the NBU GUI must be done using the special shell (CLISH) or Linux command line.
Not sure if Symantec offers training for Aplliances specifically, but if go to the Training tab on PartnerNet, you will find SSE and SSE+ (Level 1 and 2) training for 5230 Appliances.We can probably shower you with URLs and info, but I think the URLs in Riaan's post and datasheet will be a good start.
