Flashing Amber Light on expansion shelf

5250 with newly installed 1st Expansion shelf (and memory)  Worked with support post install to extend MSDP with no issues.  Appliance and storage has been working without issue since install (2+ weeks)  I've searched for h/w guides for this information and I can't find any.

On the front panel (left hand side) of the expansion shelf, there are 3 lights.

Top "check mark"- Green, solid.

Below that is an unlighted green light next to what might be an "X" (??).

Below that is the amber light, what I would describe as slow steady flashing, next to the disk or storage symbol (??).  I've checked the appliance interfaces and don't see an error condition or log entry that might cause the steady flash.

Is this normal behavior?

  • the blinking amber usually referes to RAID rebuild, (expansion).the solid Amber could refer to a faulty disk.
I suggest first of all if you do not have your appliance registered to netInsight, do that in first place, it is a very good way to observe healthcheck of your appliance(s) from one panel.
secondly,as suggested on top, do confirm that healthcheck of the appliance node and storage shelf is fine, (system self test ).check the health check on IPMI (system management) to confirm all status are fine.
again as suggested on top , the cold shutdown is a good way , shutdown the appliance and remove power cords, wait for a few minutes, start the storage shelf, (the farest from node first) and then node at last.

finally, since you seem to have valid support , you can always open a case with Veritas.

I am assuming you don't see any errors in hardware show-errors?
