Immutable backups
I have been tasked with researching on how to get our backups to be immutable(fancy buzz word being thrown around). We have a 5240 appliance with a storage shelf and one windows media server. The appliance is running 5.0.0.1 MR4 and the windows media server is running 10.0.0.1 that duplicate to lto8 tapes. I'm just looking for a quick answer on what we can or cant do with what we have.
Do we need a 'Flex' appliance or cloud storage to get to the immutable level or would it be as simple as adding a WORM capable drive? Thanks in advance
Hi bcsupport
With the current infrastructure you have, the only opption to add immutable storage is to use cloud (MSDP-C) to a supported cloud provider. If you do set it up an immutable cloud LSU, it needs to be done from the start and cannot be changed later - although you could add a second cloud LSU using an immutable cloud bucket.
If you want to have immutable storage on-premises, then you would have to obtain a Flex appliance (no harm in a second appliance, but given teh 5240 is probably 3+ years old, maybe it is time to update - sorry sales hat on there).
Hope that helps
