Netbackup advanced disk or dedupe Share
Hi Guys ,
we have a server we hare out to the SQL Administartor who dump SQL dumps files onto . we then use netbackup to backup this up to tape using Netbackup applinace 5230 . I was just wondering if theres is a possiblity to create some kind of shre on the appliance Advanced disk or dedupe pool for the SQL guys to place SQL dumps files directly into netbackup .. we dont want to use the Netabclup agents to backup sql as we have a dedicated netbackup administartor who prefares SQL dump files ...
First get rid of your Backup administrator and start using SQL agent backups. Big savings on disk especially if the disk is on the SAN.
Secondly no you cannot share out the advanced disk or deduplication disk. They are actually containers and not really a file system per se. NetBackup needs to manage what goes in and how.
You can however create a CIFS share on the media server and dump to that and then run a backup job on the 5230 to backup that share if you are worried about performance issues on the client.
That function may require you adjusting your deduplication pool or advanced disk pool size to free up enough space for the share.
