  • In addition to all the above warnings, you can't use the same fibre connection from a 5220 for both tape and SAN...

Here's the document with "what ports do what"   https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.DOC7648

Note that slot 3 (the upper right one as you look at the back) is reserved for fibre tape drive connections.

Slots 2 and 4 (and yes, you have to have both filled with fibre cards for a supported config) are for SAN connections.  So you have to have a Model D as described on pages 23 and 24 (or a Model E)...talk to your Reseler about a reconfiguration if you have a different model and need both tape and SAN fibre connections..

  • Please excuse the firm tone of the following text.

Making a mistake with zoning opens up a very real opportunity/possibility to take your entire SAN off-line.

If you do not know how to save a zoning config before making any changes, then you should not be zoning.

If you do not know how to restore a zoning config, then you should not be zoning.

If you have never zoned before, i.e. if this is your first ever time at zoning AND are going to be using the GUI - then do not zone on your own - get someone to help you, and verify your actions with you.

If you corrupt AND loose your zoning config (or do not have a save config) - then it may take several to many hours or even days to re-create the configuration.

The 'terms' upload/download for saving/restoring a SAN zoning configuration can be confusing - be sure that you get it right.

SAN zoning is typically a "must not fail, cannot fail" type activity - i.e. you typically have one, and only one, chance to get it right.

  • I strongly advise against mixing disk and tape in the same zone.  SCSI resets are often issued to tape.  Disk arrays do NOT like receiving SCSI resets.  Errors will coccur.  Corruption of both disk and tape, caused by abandonned IO caused by SCSI resets, can and will occur.

I strongly advise against having more than one initiator in a zone.

    This may help:

  • thanks the tape library have option of Fibra channel

just to list down the steps

    -create zone of tape library

    -nbu applinace already created zone

-add tape library zone with the nbu appliance zone

-how to find and ensure the nbu appliance connected with tape library

-install drive for the tape library

    please advice
