6.5.6 upgrade to 7.5 latest MP

Hello and Good day fellow Netbackup users,

Can someone please confirm if this is supported

Currently running in PROD

Windows 2003 SP 32 bit Server OS with Netbackup 6.5.6

Would like to go to 7.5 and or 7.5 latest MP on this server?

Is this setup supported for this upgrade to 7.5 Latest MP or do we have to go to 7.0 first then upgrade to 7.5?

Thank you

Stef

  • Not a problem with your upgrade as Marianne states - but it may be a good time to move over to Windows 2008 as Windows 2003 32bit will not be supported after 7.5 and with 7.6 out "soon" then now may be a good time to move over - it will also increase your performance of the Master too.

See the Software Compatibility list for 7.x and against Windows 2003 32 bit is note [2] which says:

This Operating System on this CPU Architecture is not supported as a master or media server at the next minor release following NetBackup 7.5. However, support
for this Operating System can change if the market position or vendor support changes.

    Hope this helps

#edit# just noticed your reply .. you can go from your current version to 7.5 and then you patch to 7.5.0.6

  • Yes - as per the Upgrade Portal:

    3. Upgrade to NetBackup 7.5 can occur from all NetBackup 6.x and NetBackup 7.x versions

You will see in the OS Compatibility List that your OS is still supported, but won't be in next major release.

    See p. 26 of http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648

Now is probably a good time to motivate for a new 64-bit server with W2008....

Migration is as easy as a catalog backup and recovery: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH77447 (also mentioned in Upgrade Portal).

  • You guys are of amazing help! many thanks! The issue is all the variables that can go wrong with building a new box, installing the same NB version as PROD, running the upgrade images/databases etc, porting over the old fiber card to the new server, renaming the new server with the old servers name IP/etc I was thinking , run the upgrade on PROD, then build a new server 2008 with the same version of NB making it a lot easier to port over down the road, your right the OS is old and we should move off it, im trying to lessen the blow if there is any issues
