Amount of data in Netbackup catalog

I have been tasked with finding out how much data we currently have backed up. I'm think I may be making this more difficult than it is. The question was posed "If we restored everything we have on disk and tape, how much data would that be?"

Is there some script, or report in OpsCenter that I'm overlooking that will say "you have this much data in your catalog that was backed up?"

Help!?!

  • Use the Client Backup report. Select "Earliest available" to "Current time" and leave default of "All clients".

Depending on amount of images this report could take a VERY long time to run.

Save/export the report that is produced and open with Excel. Sum the backup size column.

If you are just interested in front-end data, have a look at the Capacity License utility: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH148678

  • There is also the "Images on Tape" and "Images on Disk" reports that are built into the NetBackup Admin Console.  There is a column for KB written that should cover how much data was written to the tape/disk for that backup.
