authentication failed(160)

I'm using NBU 6.5.5.  The Master and EMM are on the same server 2008 and the media server is Server 2003.

I've seen another topic where the solution to this was to include the domain in the disaster recovery tab of the policy - i.e. domain\user.  However, the username includes the domain.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

authentication failed(160)
  • Resolution:
The error occurred while attempting to create the DR file.  It was discovered that changes in the network now limited the user to the UNC path, meaning it was no longer authorized to use the path specified in the policy.

The Catalog policy was updated with a new username and password which did have access to the DR path.

After these changes were made, the backup ran successfully.

STATUS CODE 160: A Hot Catalog Backup fails with status code 160 (authentication failed) reported.

  • Maybe im missing something in your reply but the username im using is a service account that has admin rights to everything on both the master and media server...
  • media server.."

Is that where the DR path is pointing to, the Master &/or Media Server?
  • Ack.  User error.  The share had been taken off the folder....
