Auto Restart backup failure in Netbackup

In our environment we have failed backup restarting by itself. Could anyone guide me on how to enable/disable the auto-restart feauture ? A doc would do.

  • There is not a per client setting for this.  NetBackup has a global setting of 'n' tries per 'n' hours.  Look in Host Properties, Master Servers, Global Attributes for the 'Schedule backup attempts' option.

  • Default retries is 2 every 12 hours with a wait of 10 minutes inbetween first 2 tries, after which it will be tried again after 12 hours (if backup window is still open ). As per above excellent post, it is a global setting that will affect all clients and all policies.

Why it is not possible to restrict/modify/configure autorestart setting per policy/client basis?

If we have some jobs that shouldnt/cant be restarted (for whatever reason) what can we do? Its really a problem.

because it is a global attribute and it is by design.

What you can do is to close the start window as much as possible, knowing that you may have problems as there is a possibility that the  backup ican not find a slot to start.
You have to design it carefully.

And please open a new threat. Do not ask question on resolved cases
