Backing up Windows Server 2012 R2 VM file server data disk encrypted with Bitlocker ?
Hi People,
Does Netbackup 7.6 supports backing up my Windows Server 2012 R2 VMware virtual machine with 2 TB D:\ encrypted with BitLocker technology ?
Based on this KB article: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2036142 BitLocker is supported by both VMware and Microsoft for any other disk apart from C:\ drive.
Thanks.
Windows 2012R2 is using Vcenter 5.5 is supported in Netbackup 7.6.0.2

Regarding the use of bitlocker. I don't think Netbackup care because it only handle the bit stream within the VMDK file.
I did some google searches but did not find any reference if bitlocker is supported or not using Netbackup for VMware.
But I do think it will effective disable the clever features of Netbackup (e.g VRAY) because the disk is encrypted. Also VMware accelerator and deduplication may very well go down the drain because of encryption. Basically Netbackup will not be able to recognize the binary stream and you may end up with a full 2TB backup every day. Again this is my suspicions and not facts.
Unless other have knowledge of this topic you may have to contact Symantec to have the issue resolved.
