Backup and Remote Replication

I need some advice on the following backup requirement and would like to know the various available options. I need to propose a solution to meet this requirements

Local Site: A Backup Server with SAN & Tape library for data and image backup of around 100 Windows systems using Symantec (Backup Exec/SSR/Netbackup) backup softwares.
Requirement 1: Secondary backup server at local site, preferably utilizing the same SAN & Tape library
Requirement 2: Replication of backup data from primary site SAN to remote backup site. I also need the process to recover this data.

  • I have moved this post to NetBackup forum for better visibility.

  • So which is it? Are you using Backup Exec or Netbackup at your local site? The more details provided, the better.

  • Best is to contact your local Veritas reseller for a proper site assessment.
There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration for a backup solution:

    To name only a few:
Applications on each of the Windows servers
Size of data on each of the Windows servers
    Budget
    RPO and RTO

To replicate backup data to a remote site, you need supported Dedupe technology.
There are many options - including NBU and BE's own media server dedupe.
