Hi I would like to know how set up tape rotation.
Weekly full backup happens on fri of every week. retain the weekly full for two weeks. Take one offsite and leave one onsite.
Monthly back up happens on sat. retain for four months. Take on monthly offsite and one onsite.How do i know which tapes that i can take offsite when done. I would like to keep rotating the tapes automatically.
basically how to set up GFS tape rotation by creating a Daily, Weekly, and Monthly pool. How many minimum tapes can I use.

why not create a media pool for 4_month_offsite and then setup a backup schedule to backup once a month to that media pool. Then send that offsite? Way easier to do it that way than to try and figure out what tape/backup really needs to go offsite. Simple solutions are far easier to create and maintain.
Do the same thing for the weekly backup. create a weekly_offsite_2wk media pool, setup a specific backup schedule to backup to that media pool and each week, pull and send offsite.
