backup schedules still are not updated

i initially thought it's a problem with 7.5 but we are now on 7.7.3 and still having this issue with the scheduler.

if i create a new backup policy (either from scratch or copied from existing policies) and i do a "./nbpemreq -predict -date 02/18/2019 23:59:59", the new policies don't appear.

no matter how many times i issued "./nbpemreq -updatepolicies" the new policies still won't appear.

i do this check because if policies don't appear with the above command, it is a sure thing that they will not run as expected. i have to run them manually.

what is the problem? how to resolve this?

  • Can you please provide more details..

    • Are you doing any upgrade
    • is it part of any activity
    • were there any changes performed in the environment
  • Best to show us an example of such a new policy.

My experience has been that my interpretation of when the backups should run is not always how NBU interprets my new policy.
Having a good look at policy config (bppllist <policy-name> -U) normally helps to find the issue.

      My two cents:

Maybe the client for which you are updating policy is in offline state? Can you check this by running this command:

      bpclient -client client_name -L
      Client Name: client_name Current Host:
      Hostname: client_name
      Dynamic Address: no
      Free Browse: Allow
      List Restore: Not Specified
Max Jobs This Client: Not Specified
      WOFB Enabled: yes
      WOFB FIM: VSS
      WOFB Usage: Individual Drive Snapshot
WOFB Error Control: Disable and Continue
Client Direct: Deduplication on the media server or
      Move data via media server
Client Direct Restore: Move data via media server
      OST Proxy: Off
      OST Proxy Server: Unspecified
      Connect options: 2 2 3
      Offline for backup: No
      Offline for restore: No
