NetBackup Bare Metal Restore Boot Server software is not supported on
HP OS level B.11.23.

NetBackup Bare Metal Restore Boot Server installation failed.

One or more of the Add-On Product installations failed.

After reading on NB updates found out IA64 11.23 Boot server support was added from 6.5.4. Applied 6.5.4 Client patch following NB_BBS_6.5.4 also failed with below error.

ERROR: You must first install the BMR Boot Server Base Release.
ERROR: Pack NB_BBS_6.5.4 will not be installed.

Please help me if anyone here have a HPUX 11.23 Boot server configured and working?

Environment:

NBU Master is 7.1.0.1 on RedHat Linux 5.5

BMR is initialised and working correctly for Red Hat, SuSE, HPUX 11.31 IA64, Solaris 10, 9 and 8.

  • BMR client is not thoroghly supported on HP-UX 11.23 IA64. Thus, you can not create SRT for it, and can not protect it by BMR. Take system backup by other way(using ignite or so), and protect data by NetBackup.

  • BMR support for HP-UX IA64:

BMR component      |        HPUX IA64 version     |    Added in NB release

    bmr master                            11.31                                  7.0

    bmr boot + client                    11.31                                  7.0.1

    Thanks.

  • Which means IA64 11.23 Clients are not protected at all in 7x Environment? Is there a way we can create 11.23 SRT on 11.31 boot server?

  • Is there a reason why BMR is not supported on HP-UX 11.23 IA64 ?

  • I suppose Symantec made a decision regarding with development resource, potential customers, lifetime of 11.23, etc.

  • So when we added bmr support on HP IA64, requirement was for 11.31 and onwards. 11.23 required different handling at different BMR processes and needed qualification as well. Due to probably less demand on 11.23, that support was not developed/tested/enabled.

    Thanks.

  • Thank you all for your input. We have implemented Ignite to protect IA 11.23
