bpimagelist results

Hello,

Running Symantec Netbackup 7.5.0.6 on windows server 2008 R2 SP1.
Moreover, we are using SLP for backup and duplicate to a different storage units.

Yesterday, I got a duplicate job that failed with error 84, so I run the command:"bpimagelist -backupid" to check which copics the specific image backup is finished successfully and I got the following results:

what is this mean imange copy number -1?

please advise.

    A VMware policy does a granular backup so that you can restore individual files from a VMWare policy.

    The TIR process is used within this to enable to location within the vmdk backup of where the files reside - so in effect it uses TIR for all VMware backups.

    The -1 can also relate to images being replicated with AIR in a SLP

    In your case, assuming that AIR is not being used then the TIR is the granular component of the VMware backup

    run the command bpimagelist -backupid <backupid> -L

    it will give you the output in human readable formate and clearly make you understand.. how many copies it has.

    you can lookfor number of copies in the above command output.

    The order is Copy number and then fragment number ie. in your case 1 -1

    So it's actually fragment -1 not copy number -1.

    Fragment -1 stores information for TIR which is written at the end of the backup.

     

    As Nagalla mentioned if you use the "-L" swwitch you would get the output in a human read-able format.

    Amol Nair,

    Thank you for advising.

    I dont really understand the meaning of the -1, I dont think we are using TIR in our backups,

    where is this configured, maybe there is exceptional policy that I dont know about it.

    The setting is in the policy attributes.

    On the right hand side you will see the checkbox

    "Collect True Image Restore with move detection".

    Fragment Number

    		   The fragment number. Default: 1 for the first copy, 2 for the second copy, etc. A fragment of -1 indicates a TIR backup.

    If TIR is enabled It will restore  an incremental backup includes all files that were backed up since the last full backup

    Hi Sri,

    Thank you very much for the detailed answer. I read everything now on TIR backup/restore, but I still have misunderstanding of something.

    The output that I published of the commamnd:"bpimagelist -backupid" was output of client backup from type VMware.

    This is the policy that backup the client:

    As you can see, there is no check on the TIR option.Yet, there is FRAG -1 on the output.

    Have you tried to run bpimagelist with -L option?

    You should be able to compare -l output with -L output and get the real details.

    yes... bpimagelist command with -L will clarify all your questions...

    even after if you have the questions, pleas post the output.

    Thank you all for the help,

    I tried to run the command with the flag -L and I saw as you all said that the frag -1 is for the TIR information.

    But still I didn't understand why I have frag -1 for the TIR in backup image of a client that in his policy the TIR option is not checked as you can all see in the picture that I add above
