Is this the command to create the softlink?  >>-s /mitbkup /usr/openv

because that doesn't work for me

You missed the actual command -------> ln

NAME
     ln - make hard or symbolic links to files

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/bin/ln [-fns] source_file [target]

 

So:

ln -s /mitbkup /usr/openv

Looks like the command >>>ln -s /mitbkup /usr/openv  worked because it didn't give me a error however when I went to install I the message below.

Client binaries are located in /p8dev1/jtrg/NetBackup_7.6.0.1_CLIENTS1/NBClients/anb/Clients/usr/openv/netbackup/client/RS6000/AIX6.

ERROR:   There are 1195036 kbytes of space left in /usr/openv.

         You will need about 2541873 kbytes of space to install

         the NetBackup client.  Refer to the NetBackup Release Notes for

         UNIX, Windows and Linux for the most current information on the

         minimum binary size requirements of NetBackup software for each

         supported platform and operating system.

so I think its still going to usr/openv?

 

looks like you do not have enough space on /mitbkup

what is the output of below commands

ls -l /usr/openv

cd /usr/openv/

df -k .   (dot ( . )after df -k when you are in usr/openv/

Worrying signs here that you havent got the basic skills to make sense of the OS you are expected to do the intall in...ask for some training.  Add to that the impression that it hasnt been sized correctly to take the install (which "user" made the filesystem?) and I fear you are well down the road towards the home of mr and mrs cockup.
