Can both OST and DDBoost be installed in one Linux Media Server

Hi There,

We are trying to achieve moving data from Data Domain to Store Once device.

If we use one dedicated media server to do this 'duplicate job' can it be achieved or we need two media servers one installed with ost and another installed with ddboost?

If we can use only one for that do we need to install both ddboost and ost plugins and also is it supported?

Thanks in advanced.

Regards,

AJ

  • No problem - a OST plugin from vendor A will not interfere with plugin from vendor B.

If you take a look in the OST plugin directory : /usr/openv/lib/ost-plugins/ you can see it already contain multiple OST plugin from Veritas itself - e.g MSDP and Cloud Connectors, advanced disk encryption.

Veritas so to speak uses it own OST framework for Netbackup itself. Thus no problem having a OST plugin from EMC and HP on same enviroment and media server.

  • I have not seen any documentation that says only one OST plugin is supported. The new plugin should simply give you another Storage Server type and not replace the existing one.

  • Another thing to check is the version interop, i.e. will the versions of OST that you need to use both work with the same one version of NetBackup?

e.g. vendor "A" device/feature version a.a might require version b.b of OST which might only be supported in version c.c of NetBackup.
