Can NetBackup support BMR full backup/restore the total VMs created on top of Redhatlinux host?

Hi,

I want to do BMR full/incr-diff backup of my client which are KVM created on top of redhatlinux6.5 (host).

Can I only install NetBackup client software on the host, then do backup/restore all of the VMs?

Besides, there are oracle db files in one VM, how can I backup oracledb in that case? Need to install NetBackup client software on that VM?

NetBackup master/media/BMR master/boot server 7.6.1.2  OS:redhatlinux65  ( one physical machine )

SRT redhatlinux66

six redhatlinux6.6 KVM on top of redhatlinux6.5 (host) ;

one redhatlinux59 KVM on top of redhatlinux6.5 ( host );

Regards,

Lacey

  • Also understand that BMR does not work to recover an entire VM host system. It works at the VM guest OS level. Each individual guest OS instance is recoverable using BMR, assuming that the virtual environment and each individual guest OS is a supported BMR client type.

  • Look for more definition of supported virtual environments using this article:

    Statement of Support for NetBackup 7.x in a Virtual Environment (Virtualization Technologies)
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH127089

    Note that there are different levels of support for virtual instances. That is to say, it may be supported as a NBU client but not supported as a BMR client.  The BMR client support has a heavy interaction at the OS and hardware level which an NBU client does not.
