Can you upgrade a clustered master at 7.1.0.4 to a single node at 7.5 (windows)

I assume the process would be to just install a fresh copy of 7.5 and import the catalog?  It would be nice to just upgrade the active node and then demise the other one.  We find the cluster a waste and would like to reduce our run rate.

  • Two possible scenario to transform current clustered master to single node master:

    • Just decommision passive mode of cluster. This master is still treated as clustered, but run only on one node.
    • migrate clustered master server to pure single node master. This requires special assistance of Symantec Consulting Partner. You cannot do it by yourself.

  • In addition to Yasuhisa's excellent post - there is no 'catalog import' function in NBU.

Catalog backups can only be restored to exact same type of master - same OS family, exact same NBU version, clustered to clustered or non-clustered to non-clustered.

The problem is with the clustered vs non-clustered EMM database. There is no way to convert existing database. As Yasuhisa said - this can only be done with specialized tools that Symantec only issues to specially trained catalog manipulation consultants.

    Extract:

Symantec has developed comprehensive methodologies to handle a variety of reconfiguration requirements including the following scenarios:

    • Migration from an existing master server to a NetBackup appliance master server
    • Merging of two or more domains
    • Splitting of a domain into two or more domains
    • Clustering of a non-clustered Master Server
    • Renaming of a Master Server or Media Server
    • Moving a Master Server to a new machine involving a host name change
    • Moving a Master Server to a different platform/operating system (Windows to Linux/Unix or Linux/Unix to Windows)
    • Un-clustering a clustered Master Server

A number of Symantec consultants and Consulting Partners worldwide have been trained on these procedures and certified to deliver them in accordance with standards required by the Symantec technical support organization.
